Backing out of a job offer after a pre-employment drug test form was emailed to you?

You don't have to take the job just because you took the drug test.

 

He's worried about not taking the drug test (because he's not taking the job) and how that might show up later

 

The safest thing. Would be to take the test. Then when they offer you the job. Decline it. That way they can't say you refused it out of spite. Cuz as we all know. A refusal counts as a positive.

 

Err on the side of safety, go take the test then turn down the job.

don’t turn the job down 1st and let them b.s. you by saying it’s ok skip the drug test. You got notification, if you take the test nobody can say a darn word about refusal.

Yeah , I would take the drug test since they already scheduled it . Can you imagine if somehow it gets noted that the drug test was ordered and you refused it

 

You are not obligated to take a drug test if you decide not to pursue employment with them. Failure to show up for a pre-employment drug test is not a refusal. 382.107
Refuse to submit (to an alcohol or controlled substances test) means that a driver:

(1) Fail to appear for any test (except a pre-employment test) within a reasonable time, as determined by the employer, consistent with applicable DOT agency regulations, after being directed to do so by the employer. This includes the failure of an employee (including an owner-operator) to appear for a test when called by a C/TPA (see § 40.61(a) of this title);

(2) Fail to remain at the testing site until the testing process is complete. Provided, that an employee who leaves the testing site before the testing process commences (see § 40.63(c) of this title) a pre-employment test is not deemed to have refused to test;

(3) Fail to provide a urine specimen for any drug test required by this part or DOT agency regulations. Provided, that an employee who does not provide a urine specimen because he or she has left the testing site before the testing process commences (see § 40.63(c) of this title) for a pre-employment test is not deemed to have refused to test;

 

I personally would do the drug test as I'm paranoid someone will get something wrong and screw up my career. That said, @dibstr is 100% correct in that a pre-employment drug test is treated differently than a random. It's fine to simply decline the job offer and thus the drug test.

Now if you do go to take the test and walk out of the "secure" area, whatever the testing center calls secure, it can be a refusal even for pre-employment. So if you do go don't walk out, but you don't need to go.

 

I would just take the test. Then you don't have to worry about it.

 

Ordinarily, I’d say crawfish out of it, but this outfit sounds cheap (based on your comments about the benefits).

As such, I think you should do the test AND go to orientation. And, at the End of the last day, tell them you changed your mind because you need better medical.
