Definitely look into WIOA. It stands for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. I applied for it in California and got approved. I went to a trucking school that was affiliated/approved for the program and got my CDL free of charge.

Contact your local job placement assistance office, here in California it's CalJOBS. I'm sure there is something similar in your state. It takes a few months to go through the process, at least it did here in CA due to COVID.

Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to the forum world so I apologize if I’m posting this in the wrong place! I’d like to start my own hot shot trucking business. Im 26 and have been a heavy equipment operator and around trucks for the past 7 years. The catch is when I was 21 I made a ####### mistake and got convicted of a felony hit and run in my personal truck. I haven’t even had a parking ticket since then. Does anyone know, based on my criminal record, if starting my own hot shot outfit even feasible? Im sure my insurance will be a little pricey to start out, but am I eligible to receive a DOT or and MC number? I have a DOT medical card currently, and am working on getting my class A through my current employer. But is the idea of owning my own rig a pie in the sky/impossible idea?
