No idea when "it" started. But I will say this. The fall of 2019 was the most sick I had ever seen the school kids in my area.
I still have the doctor report for my daughter, she tested negative for the flu, and the comments clearly say she has "a new virus going around that mimics the flu..."

The class went on a trip fist week of November of 2019, and parent after parent had to drive and go pick up their sick kids.
