I think small Midwestern Town part speaks volumes. Kids grow up with values and a work ethic, for the most part, in that environment. I think that Young Lady will work out just fine. Just tell her, " Don't y'all start acting like them CITY GIRLS"! LOL
I am 36, is it too late?

Look up XPO or any other local LTL carriers. Will get you started and paid on the dock, with benefits, and train you up; all while staying local. The hours and shifts suck but you won't be broke and you'll start accumulating skills.
This isn't hard, dude. Show up, be nice, don't complain and you'll have a total comp package of over 60K day one.
This is a perfect chance to start over and change things. -
