I got one when I first started because my significant other wanted me to have a CB and a dashcam. So, to please her, I got them both.
Truth be told, I don't use it often, BUT, when I do it's pretty handy to have. I personally find it useful for:
Traveling in inclement weather. CB chatter will often let you know of some upcoming hazard, or closed lane, or similar that is very useful to know in bad weather.
I'm governed at 65mph. It is more common than I wish that I'm on a 2 lane. When another truck comes up behind me, I'll try to raise him on the CB and work with him to let him get by. I actually get frustrated with other truckers not using one in those situations. Too many times I've had a truck stuck behind slow poke me for 30 or more miles when, if they had a CB and had it on, they could have been around me and on their way in a mile or two.
Lastly, although fortunately I haven't had this happen to me. But, there are definitely stretches of highway with no cell signal. I know, I drive them commonly (stretches of both US93 and US95 in Nevada). If I end up broken down without any cellphone signal. CB will be a lifeline to hopefully get someone to send help. Think about being stuck on the side of a 2 lane lane highway with no cell phone. Who knows how long it'll be before some misc. DOT, or someone else, might come by and stop to see what's up.

Yeah, CB could come in handy. I highly recommend getting one!

    so....
You are relying on other people to type on the phone while driving and you looking at your phone when driving to read it...... you know that looking at or just holding your phone when driving will get you a ticket in some states also if your a company driver can also get you fired...

And ya old school cb can tell you A LOT of things your new school app never will...

1st ...... So your the guy I see weaving all over in heavy traffic trying to cause another accident because your trying to read your ph .. while I have known about the traffic issue for the last 15 mins from other drivers that run a CB also.
2nd ... how many thousands of people are typing about the moose or cows standing in the middle of the 2 lane road your driving on in the middle of nowhere ? Or how the road is blocked 4 miles ahead of you on a blind curve because somebody is in a snow bank ?

I have 1 last question... do you also consider the TV obsolete too ?

If you’re new to trucking it can be easy to do as you say. Grab all that roller wheel food but a CB will be the least of you’re concerns when all of a sudden you find yourself blowing up from the bad food
That Flying J pizza looks better in the window. Let it lie

I know off topic but figuring out a way to eat healthier on the road will make a world of difference in your life

The struggle is pretty real I see when it comes to change. Yes I have a TV but it’s not black and white or a tube TV so you might not recognize it to be an actual TV.
At least you’ll never have to worry about me buying the last CB before you get there. You are safe.

I like the CB for the fulfilling, meaningful and informative conversations I have with the likes of:

    - Skeeter
    - Hammer
    - Doughboy
    - Chain lube
    - Spider

    &

    - Butch

But hey, there’s always YouTube. It can be very informative too. Why just recently, I learned (from YouTube) that hot water is the best way to clean battery terminals. That’s the kind of knowledge you can’t find just anywhere!

Edit: It would be rude to forget to mention Lady Bell. If not for a most pleasant CB conversation with her, I may have gone my entire life without learning the difference between STDs and STIs.

Although, admittedly, I’m still a bit mortified she felt close enough to me to share such intimate details of her life. Then again, she is a Black & Tan hound and perhaps their values are different from my own.

A CB is one of those things where it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it

Kind of like a toothbrush. Can you imagine waking up with a hairy tongue only to find you’ve lost your toothbrush? I shudder at the thought.

Back in the day we'd use it to converse w our fellow drivers on a 2 lane during the night.
I know actually talking on the thing is kind of a lost art but sure did make the miles pass quickly
Funny thing is nobody speeds up or slows to run w another truck anymore
