This post is going out to any employee who currently works for Old Dominion . I just received my CDL after taking a 16-week course at the local Community College.

Within that time, the hub manager from Old Dominion came by to promote the company, and mentioned that they'd offered a free health care plan to their employees and one that cost $15 per week. When asked what the difference was in coverage, the manager couldn't specify the difference in coverage.

So basically, the question is how much more coverage do you get out of paying $15 per week for a single person as opposed to getting the free health care coverage?

If you work at OD bro you wipe your culo with $15.

I’d imagine it would just be a an HSA illegible plan with a smaller out of pocket, or slightly smaller deductible - just going by the prices of health insurance $15 a week won’t cover much OD would obviously be subsidizing a good portion of it.

if you can get a job at OD out of school don’t worry about the $15.

You can probably email their HR department for the health plan specifics

Yeah, I'm guessing it's an HSA vs. a traditional PPO type of plan. That's how our setup is at Dayton Freight. The HSA has no weekly premium but you fund the account with pretax money. In our case the company also puts money into the account and if you meet your deductible the company pays 100% of everything above that. OD may or may not do the same.

My family has had surgeries and a child birth that cost us nothing at all. But not all HSAs are necessarily going to be that good so you need to compare both plans. In my case I had a family member who was on the board of a hospital look at our two plans and said that our HSA was a no-brainer. If you have someone you know with that kind of expertise you might run it by them before making your choice.

Good luck getting that job. My advice would be to not worry about the particulars of their health insurance until you are actually hired. Don't count your chickens and all of that.
