Every week I run from Nashville to San Diego to Torrance CA. That part goes pretty smooth no matter the time. At is the return to Nashville. CA91 to CA60 yo 215 to us a slow way to go. Last time it took me 7 hours to get to the state line due to traffic and road construction. Going up to Barstow then down into Kingman adds a 100 miles to the trip. This week I am going back down five to CA5? To El Cajun to 8 end outta Cali. Any idea that have not been explored here? Keep thinking large magic carpet, but haven't found one yet.

That route, using I-8 should work fairly decently. I'm from Yuma, on I-8 just as you cross into AZ. So, I've driven I-8 to San Diego and to Tucson hundreds of times. Only word of caution, As you come across the border into AZ, you'll hit about a 24 mile long stretch that's 65 as you go past Yuma and then the foothills. Be forewarned, it's more common than not at least one patrol car will be monitoring that stretch and they aren't too forgiving of speed. Best to hold it at 65! Once you get over telegraph pass, speed limit changes to 75 and those that patrol that area aren't so picky. I zoomed (in a car) along at 82 and 83 without ever getting any reaction from a Trooper.
I don’t know this CA5 you refer to. There is a more Southern route out of the area on CA94 that merges into I-5. But, unsure if I've ever taken it. I always go on I-5 into and out of that area.Sirscrapntruckalot and MOBee Thank this. -
Assuming you're going back to Nashville, where will you catch I-40 ? I-10 east from Indio-Phoenix is a mad house with trucks, 2 lanes each direction. Your choices are I-17, I-25, or do I-8/I-10/I20/I-30/I-40. I-5 to I-8 in San Diego then east to Yuma etc will take some time.
