I've said it many times before, but the patience of listening is severely under rated.

I dropped by H&L Machine, to thank him for the use of space for the filming of Ron's interview , and wound up spending 2 hours talking about his past and hobbies.

Almost got into the Olympics for trap shooting, Raised cutting horses (?) for years, bought trained and sold them -

He runs the C and C side of H&L, but where we got talking was photography. I learned a lot this morning . . . .

Very true, one can learn a lot! I’ve found when the other person gets to talk like you described, they end up feeling like your just the best guy they’ve met in a long long time.

Cutting horses are mostly for working cattle.

    Edit: ####! That camera!

Unfortunately, some of the images are simply too big for transmission.

He regards 99% of his work as junk, yet I'm amazed by it.

I learned a lot about photography today from him, he has about $10k invested in cameras, lenses, and filters - all well explained as to how they achieve the visual effects that I would never have imagined.

I'll throw it out there - any member that feels up for an interview, let me know.

If I'm home, and the opportunity presents, then let me know.

As we all age - and unfortunately die - or leave this industry, if there's a mark you'd like to leave on it , whether for your family and friends, or the greater community - as much as I hate to admit it, video recollection has become the new "Passed on stories handed down".

@KANSAS TRANSIT RIP, would have been great, but I invite any of you - @staceydude , @God prefers Diesels , @Old Man , @PoleCrusher , @Midwest Trucker , @JoeyJunk and countless more - reach out if you want to share a story.

This time of year, I'm fairly loose, but I always carry the camera gear around with me.

    I know!

Once he showed me the equipment , and then some end result pictures, it all became clear.

I'd do it just for the chance to hang out with the world famous glairandbretchen:D.

Lots of way more interesting folks here though. @OLDSKOOLERnWV, @cke, @jamespmack, @Landincoldfire, @kylefitzy, @Hurricane69... just a few that would be good interviews imo.

I could tell you about running wild in the '70s, before IRP, de-regulation, running regulated freight without authority, things that went on in truck stops, rest areas, pull offs, bars, ect...But I don't think it would make it by the censors.. lol

Drivers who saw the music coming out of the speakers. Others driving from NC to Cali, and part way back before sleeping, crossing the border in ElPaso, teenagers driving, triple digit trucks....Nah, no one would believe it.

    ^^^ this!

I wish my Grandpa was still alive to tell about the old days. He started in 43 and drove professionally till about 94 then hauled grain until around I’d say 2008 or so.

I’d love to hear your stories @stranger especially the triple digit trucks.
