First get a lawyer and document your injury. They may sue the place for failure to maintain safe working conditions

second tell the company you are contracted with you refuse to go there, tell them that refuse to maintain a safe work environment and you can’t be forced to take work from that company.

If they give you any crap, find another company to go to. Don’t give notice just walk away from them.

You can look at my license - but you're not holding it
Snow on the roof - not moving it
Bottom line - They don't have to do squat, and you don't have to put up with it. They need you more than you need them. Find another customer.

I can totally sympathize with you on the snow and back injury. “Rights” is the wrong word. I’d say that they have a responsibility to provide a safe working environment.

As for the driver license, it’s your proof of identity, and just as they won’t let you board an airliner without one (or some other valid ID like a passport), they’re not going to let you drive out of the gate with many thousands of dollars worth of cargo without confirming who you are.

I'm assuming the OP has no issues with them LOOKING at his DL but takes offense and issue with them wanting to remove it from his possession.

    1. Why is showing your ID a problem?
    2. If you need help from the yard switcher ask for it. He's got a busy job and he can't read minds.
    3. Are you expecting the customer to pay for your sore back? I thought you said you were an O/O? If you don't buy insurance for you, who should?

Nobody should need that from anybody who drives a truck that looks like a rolling billboard.

I might have created an ID policy at my last job for this. A 1,000+ driver company. I was working on a Saturday going to the same run I did every day of the week. Got to the shipper and the guard I've never seen before wanted my license. Sometimes they simply look at it to verify I am licensed. Well this guard wanted to make a copy of it, taking it to the main building to a copier. I flat refused to allow it. His boss got involved, my boss got involved and after an hour or so of arguing they finally let me in. All the while I'm more than willing to go back empty. By Wednesday there is a new policy. They are taking pics of the drivers to create company ID badges.

If you're an independent contractor then unless someone hurt you, I'm not sure what you're options are for some sort of injury claim.

I don't know the answers to any of your questions, but I have a question. If you're an O/O, why are you putting up with this if you don't like it? The beauty of being your own man is the ability to tell anyone anywhere to go #### themselves.

It doesn’t always work that way. I’m my own undead & the King of my castle and I decide what goes and I’ll put my feet on the coffee table if I want!

    Until Big Maude gets home!
