For the life of me I don’t understand why they don’t run heat trace on the DEF and insulate their lines better. I mean they are regularly getting real winters now…

Heck the same thing happened in Fargo in Dec, and they sure as heck should expect the cold!

Yeah, but the part I had to wonder about...it's Nebraska...it gets cold here a lot. You think they'd figure out a way to keep that crap from freezing. It's not like a sudden deep freeze in the south that happens once in a blue moon. I could see Florida having issues if it got this cold, but Nebraska...c'mon.

I was down to a 1/4, so I called Deland to see if we're allowed to buy boxed DEF in a pinch. They said yes, if you pay for it and turn in the receipt...and you have to make a note on the receipt that you tried to find bulk, but due to the extreme cold, the pumps were frozen and inoperative. And limit your purchase to enough to get you through to another area that may not be having the same issue.

After reading that last part, I’d run out on purpose. The receipt isn’t big enough to write a novel. You either want me to save the derate or not. Your call corporate #######. Also, not paying out of my pocket for your distrust of me. F that. Comcheck or fuel card. Thats it.

Mother Nature is a python eating a mother bird’s eggs in front of her, or a swamp mosquito vomiting disease into a host as it feeds on it. Most of the “Mother Nature” loving crowd have watched too many Disney cartoons with talking animals and are simply whining back seat drivers to God.

I also wonder why they don't clean the nozzles more regularly. When you can see the dried urea on the inside of the nozzle you know you're putting crud into the tank.

It's another reason why kwik trip won't become a major truck stop player anytime soon - their def is suspect year round and I'd have to be desperate to use it in the winter. Love their fuel, hate their def.

I asked if we could charge it on the fuel card, they said no. So I guess the option is, get truck and reefer fuel, and take a cash advance and buy a box of DEF. I always tape a receipt like that to the back of a blank trip sheet so it's easier to keep stapled in the stack.

Has there ever been a point in history when the state of Nebraska hasn't gotten "real" winters? Lol

I ask because I'm from the south and I've only had experience with the Midwest since 2019 when I started OTR trucking, but I always assumed the whole state of Nebraska always had "real" winters........I mean, they get snow every year, does that not count as "real winters" in everyone's opinion?

Yeah they do have all four seasons, of late more bitter cold like much of the midwest - heck to be fair even FL is getting colder for small periods of time…

Thanks for responding to my Winnyf1. I was being genuine in my response to you. As I said I'm from the south and I only started gaining experience of being in the Midwest since 2019 when I went OTR. I just always assumed the weather in the Upper Midwest had always been like it has since 2019. I didn't know that it used to be warmer, or I guess I should say I didn't know that the winters used to be milder than what they are now. I just assumed it's always been like this. And it made sense to me because from my perspective (of being from the south), it's all up north from my point of view.

    dwells40 and Winnyf1 Thank this.
