Hah. yes. I forgot about the heavy loads. Do you run the load slightly overweight or do you waste another 6 hours? Backing was always a blast in the middle of the night after waking up after only 2 hours of sleep.

When I did dry van, I always hoped the empty spot next to me would not be filled with a reefer. It was always a let down when a reefer pulled in.

What is typical weekly net income? Is that mileage based or guaranteed base pay?

About 1k a week after taxes, netted a little over 60k last year. Detention & break down pay, and something like $60 a day per diem. No guaranteed base pay, all mileage based.

Honestly I probably could go work somewhere else and make more money. But this company really doesn't hassle me about anything, and anytime the truck needs work it gets put in the shop.

    (Edit)
Also all trucks here are equipped with APU's & bunk heaters, you can take the passenger seat out, can replace inverter with pure sine, trucks can idle below 30 and above 70, and you can request a lightweight freightliner to make 5 more cpm.

Sounds about what I made at the three other non-mega companies I worked for. Were you doing reefer or dry van?

The best of the worst, or the worst of the best... of course.
    Swift.

Occasional dry loads, but always on a temp-controlled trailer.

Did you know if you scan the bills in at least by the time your waiting to get loaded at your next stop or waiting for a load from dispatch. You get extra money for scanning those bills in before 12 hrs. Plus, you don't forget to scan them and in. I think it is around $50 for early scanning. Which you know can be done your phone if it is legible.

I ran with Swift briefly back around 2002, and absolutely hated them. I was allegedly going to be on a western 11 gig, but then my first load was to New Jersey. That pissed me off pretty bad, right out of the gate. Afterwards, I had to go to my sisters wedding and gave them about 6 weeks notice. The Monday prior to her wedding, I was informed that they were not going to be able to get me back in time to catch my flight. So, I drove to the Denver terminal, cleaned out my truck and handed in my keys.
After that, I went to May Trucking and ran with them for about 3 years and loved everything about them.
I think Swift has improved some by now, and maybe I would have had a better experience there if things were different then. A lot of people hate May, I loved them. This was back between 2001/2002-2005/2006.
    To each their own.

I guess that's one advantage of a mega like Swift. You're never very far from the nearest terminal to return the truck to them.
