So i have a 2008 cascadia i just bought used, the truck runs ok, except on 10th gear, when i accelerate, it sounds normal, but when i let off the gas pedal, it makes a weird noise, not really a grinding noise, but an unpleasant engine brake noise.
ironically, if im at 60-65mph and the use the engine brake, the sound sort of goes away.
anyone know whats going on or had the same issue? Ive never owned an automatic so i don’t know whats normal for them.
its a 2008 cascadia with an automatic smart shift 10 spd.
Smart Shift Automatic noise

Have you changed the transmission oil?
There is a filter in there too.
May not be anything, but reading you just bought it, who knows when it was last serviced.
I’d say change that and read end oil, using synthetic.
It’ll be about $600-900 as that transmission oil isn’t cheap. -

Ck the ride height valve on the drive axle if it's set to HI or to low it can make a noise like you are hearing, ck the arm for play where it goes on the side of valve, but measure the ride height 1st when you pull off the road then ck when you are parked to the number you got when you pulled off the road, sometimes A bad valve will change ride height when you are driving?
dztruck Thanks this. -

If the ride height valve is going bad it can build up ride height on the road and that's why when you pull off into a rest stop right off the big road and measure the ride height and compare it to the ride height that it's at parked?
