That's with the newer refeer's today. Back in the day with the older Thermo King units were loud as hell. You could almost swear you were carrying the space shuttle on the back of your truck! :biggrin_25515:

Ate at the Lee Hi last night and they have also bought Whites just up the road, they are remodeling and trying to get rid of the vermin and paint and clean. Look for Whites to be a top notch place, the restaurant will be Berky's like the Lee Hi, but the stop will remain Whites,..I cant wait.

As a potential new driver, do you have to park at truckstops? Or is there a way to just fuel up at them and then roll into a rest stop or industrial area nearby?

I kind of like the idea of never having to be at a truckstop for anything other than fuel or emergency services.

I have lived in Memphis since 1992 and those truckstops on Lamar Avenue - Hwy 78, are legendary in this town.

Also, what do you do when there is no parking and you were expecting it?

What about backing into a spot? Is it the same as doing a 90 degree back into a dock?

I am just trying to get a feel for how much hassle and time is involved in finding a place to park at night.

Thats why most people dont go to that truck stop in Memphis, I never stopped there once I always just drive on through memphis. As for parking and finding parking, its all about what time of day it is and where abouts you are. If you're planning on parking at a truckstop in a major city be parked by 5pm sometimes 4pm otherwise you probably wont find a spot. If you're in the middle of nowhere you're more than likely to find a spot any time of day unless its out west and the roads are shut down due to the snow. If theres no parking spots you gotta keep on rolling to the next stop or rest area or on ramps if its legal. Backing into these spots also depends on the location, some are tight and really tight back, and others give you plenty of room.

Funny you ask I have often thought if a driver can make it through a rest area at 2am the CDL test is a piece of cake.

The worst ones i have seen are in the Northeast and Memphis. The J in Olive Branch, Ms isnt to bad. T/A west in Ontario oughta just be blown off the map. T/a east in Ontario can be a bit of a cluster. As far as lizzie goes, stay away from 24/7 in Bakersfield, Ca. The best is Iowa 80, Sapp Bros anywhere, Bosselmans anywhere. Living in Wichita i can honestly say the few teuckstops here are CRAP. Exit 14 on 135 is the worst. Moon craters, staff who don't give a ####. Showers are terrible. If you wanna shower here, go to the Super 8, as they have showers availble and a very nice staff. I try to stay at the 140 on I-40 in N.M. or the Petro at Milan. That is my 3.5 cents. Hope it helps...

    Stay safe and stay good
