The school I went to in the Dallas area is about $4,200 now, which is $1,000 more than I spent about 8 months ago. They went up after ELDT.

So, 6 grand in your home town, OR, you will move anywhere for a cheaper amount, BUT, you will also pay 2 grand for an apt and eat all meals in a restaurant and buy $6/gal gas to get there, right ? I'm not seeing any advantage here. But luck to ya'

I agree. Find a quality option, expect a quality education, and find a quality company to drive with for a couple years.

    It’s not an expense,
    it’s an investment.

Yup. Add in the added hassles and headaches and one is well beyond the $6k… plus you’d be halfway through school by the time you find the better option and get moved and settled in.

All the "schools" are the same, they teach you to pass your CDL Test and nothing more. The real learning takes place when you're out on the road on your own. Nothing wrong with looking for cheap in this sense.

The guy who paid $1,200 at some fly by night school can get the same job as the guy who paid $6,000+ or whatever they are charging these days.

CDL school is NOT like Harvard or Yale. CDL school doesn't set you into some exclusive network of alumni that can protect you from real life. It's only 3 weeks and every company makes you ride with a trainer for months after CDL school. EVERY CDL school will find someone to lend you money to pay for school. If trucking doesn't pay you at least $300 per month more than you are making before CDL school don't go to CDL school. Sine 90% of the CDL school students leave the industry in the first 12 months it's not worth much effort to pick one school or another.

You ought to pick the company to work for before you even look at CDL schools. The company may have their own school, only hire from certain CDL schools, or have a dock-to-driver program without school.
