X15 efficiency

Can’t beat old trucks, you can bypass just about anything on an old engine to make it home.
RubyEagle Thanks this. -
They're all somewhat comparable, besides the maxforce. I've heard Volvo/Mack going the longest between rebuilds but not every shop can work in them like Cummins pretty much. It would be a toss up between the X15 and Volvo/mp8

I’ve had good service out of my DD16

How "emissions era" are we talking?
EGR
EGR/DPF
EGR/DPF/DEF
etc.
Because that slants the playing field some. For example, Cummins is catching Hell in this thread, but a CM870 with only EGR is certainly going to be more reliable than anything in a 2016 Cascadia. Maybe look at it by sub-category on just how much emissions junk has been added. -
stwik and God prefers Diesels Thank this.

. I had 2 different Pinnacles, the older one's biggest downfall (2015) was the mDrive transmission the company ordered it with. I had the 1st transmission replaced under 300k, the 2nd transmission went in it within 50k. The 2016 had injectors go out at 275k, the new replacement injectors had issues, withing a few months I was filling the crankcase with diesel. After the 2nd visit to different Mack dealers, the one close to the company's office just put a whole new set in instead of resealing and wasting time diagnosing other possible causes. The new set fixed the problem. I also had some emissions sensor intermittently throw a code and turn on my little amber engine shaped night light. When I finally took it to the dealer because it wouldn't pull a hill over 25 mph, he said that sensor had over 8000 stored codes. When he asked why I didn't come in when the amber engine light came on, I told him the same thing about it being an indication that the engine hadn't fell out...he wasn't amused...but I told him that if I brought the truck in every time that light came on, I would only be traveling from one dealer to another. After he replaced the sensor, it ran like new...now the first year model Anthems they got, with the same engine and transmission combo had nothing but problems with both engine and transmission issues.
As far as pulling, the MP8's I had would pull circles around the DD15 Cascadias I have driven...the way my current company has them setup, these things wouldn't pull a wet fart out of a fa....uh, I mean an alternative lifestyle lot lizard's butt.JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
No matter the engine, the emission system is only as good as the person who maintains it.
Buying a used emission truck with no knowledge what or if any maintenance has been done is a lot more risky than rolling the dice on a new emission truck.JoeyJunk, pete781693, Phoenix Heavy Haul and 1 other person Thank this. -
