Not doubting your friend. But there has got to be some kind of caveat where freight didn't make it into his barn. Holiday, weather, or enough trucks broke down.
ODFL is doing really well and they are outpacing us because they (and other carriers) are snagging up our accounts and pulling what used to be our freight. It's asinine.
But to be honest, things with Yellow are going exactly the way I thought things would go when they started pasting large Yellow stickers over our Reddaway/Holland/New Penn trailers.
People associate Yellow with YRC and they no longer want to load their freight on our newly minted equipment. Kinda anecdotal, but we had a customer that we pulled 3-5 loads out of their yard a day. We got a phone call today from them asking us to pull our empty trailer out of their yard that had been sitting there for a week. "Please move your trailer, we no longer ship with you".
Yellow needs to rethink their strategy. This is not working out at all.

Of course, the ones who get catered to only have to do about a third of that.road_runner, misterG, Texas_hwy_287 and 2 others Thank this. -
Well, stop doing their work for them.
Lumper Humper and Farva Thank this. -
Holland has been dragged down and ruined by the Yellow people now running it.road_runner, Lumper Humper, Speedy356 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’m breaking in a new dispatcher, but have a feeling he won’t last. I came back with a full load today, but about half of it was from Friday.

We finally got 3 drivers from our barn to go to our FAC tonight, it was actually pretty nice for a Monday.

Had one of my top 5 weirdest deliveries today.
Ten cases of paper going to a school. Paperwork clearly marked "liftgate req" and of course I was in a 53 ft regular trailer. Whatever, ten boxes is just that... Ten boxes.
Got to the customer and explained the situation. "I got your freight, I will have to break it down and bring it in one box at a time. No biggy". Wish this is where my rant ends, but it didn't.
Got back outside, tailgated the pallet and started unloading it. Then one of their administrators came outside and went full Super Karen on me.
Hi, just noticed you don't have a liftgate....
- yeah, not an issue, it's ten boxes, I'll bring them right in.
No, no, no, no ... You don't understand. We paid extra for a liftgate service along with a inside delivery fee.
- that's not an issue, I will bring your freight inside after I break it down.
Sir, I don't think you are following me. We PAID for a liftgate and inside delivery. I understand it's coming inside, but it's not on a liftgate
- Wait wut?!? Do you want the service or do you want your freight?
We paid for a liftgate. I want the service we paid for.
*Changes gear into the diplomatic and emphatic mode to deescalate the situation*
- Karen, I realize you paid an additional fee and expect a specific service. If I was in your position I would be upset too. However, none of this is my preference or choice, they tossed your freight on my trailer and told me to get it to you. This is not Karen vs R/R, this is Karen vs Yellow issue. Please contact my company so they can modify your charges."
Sure enough she stomped off proclaiming she was getting her money back.
A 5 minutes liftgate stop should have turned into a 8 minute inside delivery. Instead this ended up taking 20 minutes.
She actually wanted me to return it to her on a liftgate the next day. No snowball chance in hell that I would bring it back as a return and then be ostracized by my coworkers for not getting 10 boxes off.The Shadow, MACK E-6, Farva and 4 others Thank this. -

man you have a patience of a Saint.
Big props for that.Lumper Humper, misterG and road_runner Thank this. -
At the end she had a valid argument. It's like paying your pizza to show up on a white glove limousine and it comes on the back of a Pinto. Same product you ordered but you feel like you overpaid for the delivery.
I flat out told her that if she turns this freight down I would mark it as a refusal and not a return. My boss would nail me to the ###### wall if I brought back ten boxes. He would legit think I was too lazy to hand-muck it inside.MACK E-6, Gearjammin' Penguin, Lumper Humper and 2 others Thank this. -
