I stumbled on this thread. I am an ex-truckie, I last drove in anger in 2000. I did dip my toes in the water about 3 years ago for some part-time work, but decided not to
I was talking to the local manager of a fairly large transport company here locally, he was saying that the average age of their drivers was 62
I was a bit sunned, but not surprised. Not many want the #### hours, the poor pay, the abusive managers, un-roadworthy trucks, abusive customers, abusive road users, the police and enforcement chasing you down the road trying to fine ($) you for every little thing (no other job has enforcement chasing you down the road), relationship break-ups
Where have all the Old Timers gone?

Talking on the cb was a blast back then nowadays the cb is really quiet if you get anybody on the radio its a miracle. I still hate get pulled in the weigh station its not what I call a good time. And the disrespect you get from everyone even truck drivers they wont move over for you if your on the side of the road they don't care. Companies between the recruiters and the dispatchers will lie to you and promise you the world just to get you in the door. its all about numbers for them. Hometime is a dream for these OTR companies. If you get so tired of sitting and you want to go home they run give you a run the other way so you will run it of your hope of getting home. its the old game of Lies and more Lies..just_sayin, Grouch and MartinFromBC Thank this.
