    That would never work at our barn. It's impossible for a junior driver to jump seniority without everyone else finding out about it. If there is weekend work (or even an earlier than usual start time) every driver has to be given an opportunity to take it on.

    If for example they skip me and give it to someone below me, then I can file a grievance and management would have to pay me for all of those hours that he worked. If they skip more than one person, each driver can file a grievance and get paid, even if they never intended to take the run.

    The only downside is that when weekend work does roll around, we have the same two senior drivers signing up for it, only for them not showing up. It's asinine to sign up, only to get bumped by someone that doesn show up.

    "Driver" is one of those people who have lived their whole life without the slightest fear of getting punched in the face. Personally, I'm confident that this society started going downhill the second duelling was made illegal.
