Benefits of driving schools?

I'm also looking into getting into the trucking world. I've looked at the few schools here in Orlando and I'm just not sure that there are any benefit other than you get a CDL. I think the learning comes from on the job training.
I'm just waiting for the spring to sign the dotted line.

 

Well, the only way, nowadays, that you can learn the 'old school way' is to find someone to teach you all you need to know to pass a CDL test, lends you a truck to take your road test, and gives you a job after.

For newbies, every company that still hires them will want to know which accredited school they went to.

 

I had to learn on a 5 x 4 transmission and after about 20 minutes, I was on my own. That is a tough way to learn, you either sink or swim within a few days.

But man do you learn.

I always told my students that the day they stop learning how to drive an 18 wheeler, they had better walk away. You never stop learning.

 

I went to roadmasters in tulsa.Learned the very basics of driving a truck and got my CDL.Cost me about 400bucks cash out of my pocket and signed a $9,000.00 loan agreement for the rest!

 

To me, deals like that should be a crime. I mean loansharking is, and that's about the same thing

 

at my school we need to have at least 180 hours behind the wheel before we can even take our CDL test. It's a community college, not a CDL mill. The instructors make sure we're as prepared as possible before we're on the road.

 

Most companies won't even talk to you as a newbie, unless you have a cert from an accredited school. About your only other choice is to find an O/O or a real small company that would be willing to "take you on to raise." And with insurance the way it is today, I think that would be difficult to find.
