Thank you everybody for your responses.

I realized by many of your responses that I am indeed getting severely underpaid, I also have no work life balance. I usually get a night off every 2 weeks and can't do anything because everything is closed at night.

I'm going to try for MB again and hopefully I can get in. I don't think I'll spend more than 3 more months here at my current company.

I'm actively searching for better opportunities.

I agree that mileage can be better than hourly depending on where you run. The problem is with us Canadian drivers is when you cross the border, waiting 1-2 hours each direction is common, if you're doing regional that's an extra 12-16 hours a week in unpaid time. That's where most of my problems came in.

    Keep on trucking!

Unless I am missing something you are comparing mileage vs trip rate,
Hourly rate is not considered here.
If the run pays 7.25 hrs that's not hourly rate for example.
A lot of information is omitted. IMO

I failed to word that correctly (intoxicated day drinking when posted). They paid hourly off the log book, I can make the run in 7.25 hrs. If you can waste enough time, running 55 mph across Ohio for instance, you can make more money. I can't waste time like that. If I knew how to milk the clock I could've made more money hourly, but I like to run. Hourly is great for some, bad for others. Comes down to personal preference I suppose

I’ve heard XTL in Etobicoke pays their otr drivers who run state side hourly now instead of mileage pay .I think they pay off elog

I get paid as soon as I stop the truck at customs. That unpaid border time is bs.

Then you'd have to deal with idiots all day and worry about being assaulted. Not worth it.

My sisters boyfriend tried that always wanted a government job even thought of joining the OPP . He got a bus driver job with the TTC was the hardest thing he ever did with all the bs hoops they make u jump through and when you do a test u must get atleast 80% and u only get one chance per test .He passed but screwed up going over a railroad crossing and got stuck between the crossing guards. HE freaked out gunning the throttle ,he made it across but got caught on the bus camera. there was 10 other driver who did the same thing and the TTC wanted to make him an example and tried firing him .Union got involved went to arbitration and he ended up having to work the subway platform doing customer service for 8 hrs a day until 2 years were up then he could reapply for bus .He ended up leaving was tired of the bs
