Boy, Hubs is Loading on the north end of Laredo today, and said there are literally more troops and BP down there than he's EVER seen on a stretch of road since he left San Antonio.

The clerk was probably getting paid to ignore complaints.

These planners again have no idea how to plan.

Current load delivers at 12pm in Indianapolis plus I just got a full 70.

Next preplan is a live pu on Tuesday going all the way near Washington DC for a live on Wednesday near the end of the day.

This is more than 1600 miles from my home and they would have to somehow get me a run back before Saturday.

Turned load down but still nothing but crikets. Have a feeling this won't be looked at till Tuesday.

I'm wondering with the current rates, if Crete is making better money with 300-600 mile loads versus your 1000+ mile loads and has passed on them except for premium customer accounts?

The Ops issues are unrelated, because even with shorter hauls you would think they would know where their equipment was located and it's status. But that kind of goes hand-in-hand with mega outfits I suppose.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

During my brief time as an O/O I noticed that short haul loads (<300mi) generally paid at least 3x/mile more than longer runs. So it stands to reason that carriers would be loading up on short runs.

Sure feels like pool has shrunk. I don't mind short hauls so long as they are productive. Picking up a live 300 mile run that is a live unload set 24 hours out might pay big for the company but does little to feed the driver.

If the company is making 3 times the mileage rate which is more profitable for them they should pay the driver 3 times his normal rate to compensate for the short haul. That way it also helps the driver and keeps them happy too.

Remember, this is a holiday weekend, so they're more shorthanded than normal. I dropped my load in Lake City, FL and went home as instructed. It was 2 hours after I was home that someone in Op's asked me if I were headed home and what my PTA was...which I set when I did my load call. And I decided to add an extra day to is since I got home after noon on Sunday, my hometime started on Monday.

That's why some companies offer a "sliding" payscale. Not many do anymore but it used to be a thing. My 1st OTR job with TRL in the mid '90s had the sliding payscale. 1-50 miles was .40cpm 51-250 was 35cpm. 250 -750 was .30cpm. Anything over 750 was .25cpm. Or something to that effect. Been a long time.
