They tried light weight big tarps. This tarp was a 40x60 light weight, it still weighed 400 pounds. They thought that was so much better then Bertha that weighed 700 pounds. I’m still not picking up a 400 pound tarp. The problem with light weight tarps is they are not durable, that brand new tarp split at the seams as I was trying to pull it off the load. It was repairs but I think it only lasted a few years.![]()
The tarp I’ve been showing is Baby Bertha at only 40x40 heavy weight. I think it weighs around 400. I was able to move it from one trailer to another by parking 6” away and kind of rolling it.
We do have some lighter 24x40 skin box tarps for tarping skin boxes. We started out with 7. I think two of those are left. Theft or destruction and guys claiming theft.![]()

Btw check out that rope job on the second picture. That 15’ wide box is made up of aluminum I beams so you can hook the loose hooks right under the edge.
TlR yes, not really, doesn’t matter because they like to keep the big tarps in Washington so they usually are never in the right place anyway.

Well, my mini-vacation is over, back to work. I made myself available for Sunday so that they could plan me on a load that picked up Monday. That way I could leave Sunday and be at whatever customer they might send me to pick up from and be ready to load 1st thing Monday. Well, that didn't pan out and I finally got a call Monday afternoon and was told to head for Rock Hill, to load Tuesday. No specifics available right then, but would be sent as soon as all the details were finalized. So, just before the GA line I find out I am headed all the way up to load 3 pieces of equipment headed for BC that I will drop at the Arlington yard. Yahooo, no tarps and a long run. 31000 lbs and only 3 pieces, I am guessing I must be picking up aerial lifts or off road fork lifts and not scissor lifts. And what ever they are, they can't be too tall because I am pulling a flatbed and not a step deck.
