I don't put much into polls and I'm sorry if you think I said you were a know-it-all because I didn't. I also believe that any driver should pass on knowledge to other drivers that don't know.
For Safe Highways Will this be a good idea or not?

When I took my CDL test last week, my examiner said that all 4 wheelers should have to drive in a truck 1 time before they get their license..just to see what truckers have to go thru. I think it would be an excellent idea to educate them on how long it takes to stop, the lack of maneuverability, etc...

Do not worry, I did not take it that way. Reason I said what I said to back the always learning. -
You can try to teach people all you want, but sometimes people just don't wanna learn but more importantly from what I've seen these days with the texting and phoning while driving, I've come to one conclusion: PEOPLE DON'T CARE anymore, so teaching them can be done, but until you teach them to care about it, nothing will work

I spent some time out of Trucking after being fired from Navajo. I sold items at a flea market to support my self, and I learn alot by doing that about people.
What I sold was hat pins, patches and ball caps that represent the Armed Forces. I had one Vet use to run by me, cause seeing the stuff bothered him. Not from what he seen in Vietnam, but how they were treated when he got home. People did not care, what he said. Well I talked with him every week. Became friends, showed I cared. Year later he came to me, shook my hand and said Thanks, he now realize people does care now.
Do people care? Some do. Saying nobody cares, like saying All truckers are stupid and can't do anything else. Well we know that not true. So yes I believe some do care, and just do not know what dangers they cause when the pass a truck pull in front of them and slam on brakes..

Alot of people at the time didn't feel like they do today. We didn't dare wear our uniforms in some places in the states. What was really sad was we got treated better in another country than our own. Australia mostly. Didn't mean to change the subject, sorry. -
Well I must say thank you for your service and welcome home.

I would love to have a course to teach drivers, especially new drivers, how to interact safely with trucks on the road. Hell I would volunteer for it. The thing is I never even hear of this idea being brought up at schools. Wonder if we should just start contacting the school boards and telling them about this idea? It might just happen

Thank you and I thank you for your service also since I was in the Navy and if I had to be pulled from a sinking ship you guys are there if you can without question.

Well that is my idea. It will be a lot of work to get started, and leg work to get into different areas.
When I thought of this Idea back in the 90's and still believe I can not reach everyone, but I do believe if we save one life, all the effort would be worth it.
In my plan would have a fleet of Show quality Trucks, (Image wise) to go into the different places. Providing I could get a hold of them, have a simulator set up in them so people can see just about how it is to drive a Big Rig. Having a second Truck pulling a flatbed or step deck with a Car after being hit by a 18 Wheeler. As an EYE OPENER.
GasHualer, we did So Others may Live...
I had to be pulled from a sinking ship you guys are there if you can without question.
There was no questioning about it, we did it at all cost.
I remember doing 30 knots in 30 foot seas, for 900 miles doing over 1 million dollars worth of Damages to our own ship to save one mans life.
The best part of Serving in the US Coast Guard was the Pride and Joy of saving ones Life. There is no better feeling than knowing you saved a life.
As Truckers we see lost of life on the roads a lot. We can help to cut that down some. The public wants it, but at our expense. But they can restrict us till we are blue in the face, and that will only do just so much. But with over 3/4 of the deadly crashes caused by the 4 wheelers, it time to start teaching them. Will the States do it? Pamphlets is their answer. We need an more aggressive approach. With this program it will be an aggressive.Last edited: Feb 20, 2010
