@BigR very well said, and I agree 100%. The lowering of hiring standards has been brought up with a few other drivers I’ve talked with about this issue.

    BigR Thanks this.

My experience and age may pale severely compared to others on this thread, but even I know that not communicating usually gets you negative results. That's what I was taught when I was raised.

Also my old company, Magnum, also wanted you to call ahead of time. If you didn't, have fun sitting for hours while your truck sits not being worked on. I've told their shop that I was planning on being in the yard at 6 am, and I was usually there or out of bed by 5 getting my stuff together, then checking in with the shop when they open.

FCC is the same way. Case in point: I picked up a trailer at ACT that was overdue for a PM, called the shop before I left the yard and said I was going to be in Fremont at x time, got into Fremont at x time, dropped my trailer, and it was pulled in and finished by the time I wanted to get going the next morning. Saved me and the shop a lot of time and headaches just by making a 2 minute phone call.

I blame most of the headaches on other drivers being lazy. I will be the first to admit that I can be a pretty lazy person. When I'm on hometime, I usually just sit at home and do nothing, partly because I'm also an introvert. I have a bad habit of not turning in my load paperwork right away. I may not always run as hard as others, but I still make my deliveries on time.

I hate to say it but I'm 23 and I know a lot of people around my age or older that still live with their parents with no job. My generation just seems like the pits sometimes when it comes to work.

I’ve got a neighbor that has a 32yo that is at home sucking the hind &@$. Can’t seem to find himself so he says. I would shown him the door 10 yrs ago. Keep Rockin it Davis. No shame in your game.

Slight change of plans. After I dropped in Valley, NE this morning, dispatch had me grab a load from Kawasaki in Lincoln going to Garland, TX to take home. Appointment time is TBD. I guess that's much better than just deadheading me home from Valley. Now I'm relaxing at home and am looking forward to an extended weekend off.

gntorres61, JohnBoy, dwells40 and 6 others Thank this.

It sure beats deadheading 100s of miles to get home. Enjoy the time off,
