im still attending cdl school right now, but i will be leaving in june for my "externship"/ training with werner. i know im going to get the "dont go with werner" responses, but are ANY of the companys that take on rookies outa school any good? ill just pay my dues until i have experience to get a better job.
back to the question(s), is there any tips/advice/stories about werner for newbies? im looking to possibly go regional or dedicated.

Run? Start fasting now, so you can go longer on less food? Stock up on baby-wipes, since it seems to be against Werner's company policy to allow trainers or trainees to shower more than once a week? Learn to enjoy the $350/wk training pay, since those will be your largest paychecks?

uhhhhh.... ok?
now how bout some real answers -
Pack lite and have spare bus fare and hide your inverters and really do always have baby wipes.

i was with them for just over a moth. Was ok but yes dont plan on stoping but for fuel. and about the bus fare keep a weeks pay put away in case you need to be home for any reason.
I say that about the bus fare
I told MY SDM that i need to get home for my mom was sick and did not know how long she would have. they told me i was lieing to them and told me i need to get back to work.
so when we droped are JT load in LA CA i got off the truck and got the train and bus back to ky
seems they dont care about you only the money you can make for them
dont plan on getting much rest or sleep if your in a prostar
oh by the was i started with them frist of this year -
Cant help ya with any on your questions, but good luck!
Mind if I ask where you are going to school? I will be headed to Weatherford College in the next couple of weeks for CDL training. Gonna try to get in there this week to get the paperwork filled out and the ball rolling.
I will be taking advantage of a state grant. That grant says that I have to drive for Werner, Trans Am, Swift or CRST for a minimum of 4 months.
I am thinking that Werner would probably be the best one of those 4 choices. I hope anyway.
A guy that I used to work with recently went to Weatherford College and is now driving for Werner. So far he seems fairly happy. -
Mine are real answers. I dealt with Werner training, myself. And drove for them.
Other suggestions I have. If there is a personality conflict between you and your trainer, contact your SDM IMMEDIATELY!! Do not let it fester, do not "just ride it out." If your SDM won't help, go over his head. Also, get all the backing experience you can. Werner has some real tight docks with some of thier contracts, and you will need all the knowledge you can get. Finally, look into a dedicated run in your area. Mileage is usually better on the dedicated runs. But avoid Dollar General. Lots of people get hurt on that account. -
thanks for the advice brsims, yea i need to contact them to just see my options and what will pay the most.
i eventually (after experience) want to get something local, or regional. -
I would go with Swift before any of the others you mentioned. They used to have agreements with USA, and Fed Ex. I would ask about those as well. Fed Ex was advertising for drivers in DFW area last week. Lot better than Werner.

I think there should be a warning for anyone who post "I am new and need advise." I love to read these over any cause of all the negativity you get, god help us all for wanting to get advise.
