that if one already has his or her CDL permit and wants to add HAZMAT to their CDL permit, that they will need to retake the entire written tests including the general knowledge and endorsements they previously passed?
Is it true that in California to add Hazmat, you have to retake the test?

Yes, every renewal one must take a written exam and be fingerprinted all over again. Sucks....
-
Also get a TWIC card. This gives you even more jobs to choose from.

weren't the rules different then though? I know that new drivers have to take ELDT training and such before taking the written HAZMAT test. I'm so confused.
-
I have two different answers here. First poster says all he has to do is take the hazmat and tanker and second poster says I need to retake written and finger prints all over. Please help

Go to your local DMV and ask. Some states have different rules.Numb Thanks this.

DMV it's just the HazMat Test, which you will need to take when it is due for renewal as well. The TSA HazMat Clearance you need fingerprints everytime.dltdamien Thanks this.

Addition of hazmat will require an eldt hazmat class. The hazmat test and finger prints will be required the first and every time you renew your hazmat.

As far as I know when renewing your hazmat you'll have to get fingerprints and retake the hazmat test. I think the new rules only apply to first acquiring your hazmat. Best bet is to call or walk in to the dmv and talk to one of the clerks specialized in dealing with cdl holders.Numb Thanks this.
