    Hi All,
What do you look for in a dispatcher? How can they be used to benefit your company?
    (not as a company driver)

You are correct on that. This is why dispatching is a complete NO GO for an O/O. Do the work that is needed to max your income and understand your business.

    LoneRanger and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Give me one that doesn’t play favorites and is actually not a complete idiot that will run a guy 75 miles the wrong way to pick up one skid.

    Apparently those don’t exist.

You know what a dispatcher and diaper have in common?

Both normally on your ###, and normally full of sheet.

Oh, this will be good,,:laughing-guffaw:dispatchers,,,you know, part of my job that kept it interesting, was how badly you could bash your dispatcher. Many times, it was a job filled by the bosses nephew, working through med school, and didn't have a clue what to do.:dark1:. It was not unusual, to pass each other in the night, and we would "self-dispatch" ourselves. It's a job taken way too lightly, and a poor dispatcher can ruin a company while the boss is in Tahiti. Today, with electronics, I'd have to think everything can be done on a computer.. A call center in India can handle the details,,,

I agree. I will take the "threat of self-driving trucks" more seriously when I see the big companies turning over the tasks of dispatching to computers and laying off the office staff. That is a million times more simple than automated driving on the roads. I suspect eventually every company will have a loadboard and drivers will dispatch themself. Employees are expensive, maybe more expensive than diesel.
