I believe the one in my truck is a 4G one. I haven't had any major issues with it.

Got my next load info. Picking up in Ontario tomorrow morning going to some powersports place in Salem, OR.

Any words of wisdom? The only part of I-5 I've ever been on was between Portland and Seattle, so I'm going into completely unknown territory. Would it be better to take I-5 or CA-99 through the central valley?

I think it really all depends on what kind of plant life you like seeing lol. Me personally, I always took 15 north to 395, hit the 58 in Kramer Junction, then picked up the 99 outta Bakersfield. Then hit the 5 on the other side of Sac town. Let's you avoid LA traffic and the Castaic's.

    10E, 15N, 395N, 58W, 99N, 46W, 5N. 22 miles further, zero traffic.

At the 46/5 junction you have a Pilot and Loves. In Santa Nella you have TA/Loves/Rotten Robbie’s and Petro. North of Sacramento you have Loves, Petro and TA in Corning. Do not, I repeat, do not stop at that disgusting Pilot in Weed. You could spend the rest of your life trying to get out of the parking lot. Cross into Oregon and you have all the assorted truckstops up the 5. A must stop is 7 Feathers TS/Casino at the 99mm. Great good in the truck center, clean showers, huge paved parking lot amongst the mountains and trees. I always stop there to take a 10 and grab a shower.

I think I'd follow Johnboy's route, lesser of the evils lol.... I'm ashamed to say I originally came from that part of the world, we moved 15 years ago, now that my son is gone, I'll never go back even to visit.

Would FCC mind if I just idled since it's 105 here in Barstow according to my truck? With the sun beating down I'm not so sure my APU would be able to keep up.

It's funny, I got my start in trucking running the i-5 sea/SD corridor for an outfit outta Spokane, but it's been so long I probably wouldn't recognize anything anymore ( not that I want to see it again lol) although, central Oregon on 95 is pretty country!

Yikes, I wonder if that has ever happened for real?

    Glad you were OK.
