We never ask, always go around. Michigan doesn’t route high loads, it’s up to our company to chose the route. Michigan verifies there’s no width or weight restrictions and approves the route without checking the height. We aren’t very good at routing either, be prepared to come up on a short bridge and creep under it. Even on the interstate.
I’ve never loaded at chesterfield, hauled a lot of assembly line tooling into and out of auburn hills though. Similar to what we hauled out of Spokane Valley. Just a lot less, usually none, loose parts.![]()

Unload went great. They had me unload in the infield so I had to come in the east gate and cross over the track. I had an escort lead me in and I had to stop before going under one of the overhead signs to let air out of my trailer airbags because I was too tall for the tail of the truck to get under. He circled back to see what was wrong, then realized what I was doing. I also had a low clearance issue in a construction zone a few miles before my exit. One of those arched bridges over the shoulder, and the right lane used the shoulder. It was a 13'9 clearance and I was a shade over 13'11". Fortunately they had a warning sign before an exit where I could get to a safe place to dump some air out of the trailer air bags and remeasure. I was only 13'8" on the front of the truck, so I dumped enough air out to level it out. And being my 1st time separating an RGN, it went smooth as silk as if I have been doing it for years. The only issue I had was getting the tension right to pull the release pin, even with lube it didn't like to release, but I called it the right name and it complied. And I was fortunate that one of the guys there knew how to work this EV. It has air ride, and the air had dropped to where it gave a warning and it doesn't build air when you turn the key to on, turns out you have to push and hold the brake pedal, then turn the key on and the air compressor turns on. However, once we got it aired up, they had me drive it off the trailer. The Peterbilt rep wasn't there today, I was dealing with the track staff. The track is hosting a EV vehicle competition for college kids and Peterbilt is one of the sponsors. Felt weird driving that thing. I asked them if I could take it around the track once just to see what it could do, but they didn't think that was a good idea.
