Isn't it both rather unsafe and a potential USDOT violation to keep using a dry bulk tank that has a good size crack and is leaking air?
Asking for a friend.

Definitely unsafe.
Moving Forward Thanks this. -
I wouldn’t pull it. You can watch videos on YouTube of pneumatics blowing open.

Aluminum bulkers expand when they are pressurised and the metal will crack anywhere it was damaged after numerous work cycles.
Eventually this will get a lot worse and more costly to repair.Moving Forward Thanks this. -
Make sure welder has a oxygen. Mask and tank when welding

The closest video clip I've seen is for a top hatch blowing open, versus a crack... but still shows how powerful it could get:

Always taught trainees that 1# of pressure on a washout cap equals about a 100# punch as it hits the body.
Had a boss who told a story about an operator who hit a cap ear that was partially open on a 6" loading line cap.
Cap flew over 1/2 mile away...trailer was working around 12 PSIG at the time!
One of two times I transported a mechanic to transport a unit back after the driver was injured with the blood stains running down both sides was due to a cap being removed as the [liquid] tank was blowing off.
The man's splash goggles saved his eye but cracked his eye socket and gave him the largest fat lip I ever saw.Cattleman84 and Moving Forward Thank this. -
Clean it up.
Tape it.
Long FLD, Phoenix Heavy Haul, JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this. -
Yesterday, I found out from my friend that the cracked tanker referenced above has now been put OOS. It's good to see the folks in their Safety Dept at HQ are doing their job.
RockinChair and Cattleman84 Thank this.
