I've noticed a crap ton of trucks and trailers in my area. Like super cheap.
Even the used truck dealer has more inventory. He usually only has around four trucks now he has around twenty.
Loves was pretty empty to around 7 pm when I passed yesterday. Makes me think we are going to be screwed here real soon job wise and people are going to start stealing and selling pills again. -
dryman Thanks this. -

Some places like phx manage to stay full 24/7 even when loads are plentiful.
There's always a shortage of drivers. Even when the economy goes south.
Trucking is the only job people can get. And wages drop dramatically. -

(I know what company you are referring to)..bzinger Thanks this. -
It is sort of an additive in reverse, or piles on. New trucks too expensive, runs old. Repair and maintenance goes up, dependability drops, loads lost for not being able to deliver as needed. Losing money...
Living expenses inflation has risen so much your driver seeks another job, a little more money. Your replacement is a little cheaper, but lack of experience in caring for equipment or getting along with customer's decreases your business volume. Losing money.
An accident (no fault) shorts you a tractor or trailer for 30 days repair... Rent one cost money for same operation. losing money.
Top this off with the fact that times have been pretty good in the industry and ownership/management were living large and getting bigger.
Coupled with the proven fact, 40% of the small business the US and neither well managed or capitalized. Most are floating along making a living.
In any business model, you have to get up every morning, plan for the work or how to get work. Approach it with pricing that will provide for ALL your costs and leave you with a profit. Set aside a portion of the profit for the pitfalls that will come. Qualify your business. No business is better than bad business.
At least you are not running yourself to death, burning fuel, wearing out rubber. A lot of talk is concerning work/life balance... Fair question...
Fine, you want a life as you age... You better marry the work and make it now..
There are no high paying jobs, with new equipment, lots of perks furnished, back in Friday by 3 or 4, and not leaving before 9 on Mondays.
A man who can provide you with that dream can afford to sit in his house, eat well, play some golf and leave you to your own designs..Opus Thanks this. -
