In the November safety meeting they said the trucks order for 2024 was put in, they are ordering 100 trucks, and they will only be ordering Freightliners moving forward. They are ordering a few trucks with the “smart idle” AKA opti idle system. They will have inverters and bunk heaters.

20231129_114416.jpg @drvrtech77 , here's the label on the diesel 911. Does not prevent gelling.

I had a truck along time ago that had opi idle hated it. Kelp me awake all night. Ever time it would start up and shut off it would wake me up.

I hope they go with a battery apu and opti idle just to charge the batteries. I had a T680 with that setup. Worked great, and would run the a/c for almost my whole break. Eventually the batteries lose some capacity and it might start once to charge. Beats the hell out of these unreliable APU's.

I had Thermoking APU’s when I drove for Schneider and Magnum. Only issue I ever had was the alternator went out on the one with my Magnum truck. Ever since I started with FCC, I’ve had nothing but constant problems with these Carriers.

It’s sort of like reefers. Never had any real problems with Thermoking reefers. Carrier reefers are very noisy in comparison and the older ones I pulled always seemed to have a code for something that was wrong.

Maybe they should just change where they source their APU’s from.

That would be better. But opti idle alone it shakes the truck everytime it starts up.

My current truck is a 2020 and Apu has 7534 hour's on it. I've never had any real problems out of the Apu on the four trucks I've had here

Having been on same fleet and living in same town as you, here are my thoughts. Was only able to take a 10 at the house once during the week because if I had 1+ hours left on my clock, I rolled right on through.

You seem to get late starts on Monday & that always seems to come back to haunt you more often than not. If I had a pallet load for Omaha, I often took off Sunday afternoon, slept in dirt lot across the street and was there @ 0500 when they opened, it's FCFS, appointments don't matter there.

In the van world, you have to run your clock out almost daily. There is no accessorial pay like in flatbed, miles is all you get.

I think it has to do with how many trucks that Apu was put on though the older it is the more likely there will be issues I had all kind of problems on the carrier in my Peterbilt I had before it wasn't a new unit definitely older it's like all things eventually the heat and vibration will eventually eat wiring or something.

OK makes since. I didn't know they did that. All the new trucks used to come with new ones.
