I wish. Eaton 10 speed automatic which I thought I would hate, based on previous experience with a Freightliner.
But they have it figured out in this one. The shift points are spot on. It doesn't upshift too early on an upgrade like the FL did, only to start going back and forth between two gears up to the top.
The Volvo will hold the gear you need until the grade decreases.
Under full throttle acceleration it will let you wind up the higher gears merging onto the interstate.
Flip on the Jake brake and it will start dropping gears slowing you down nicely if you are braking.
Keep your foot off the break and fuel and it will hold the gear you are in on a downgrade.

Aww man, don't be that way. It's not like I have a choice in the matter.
My last truck, which I had for 6 years, was an 18 speed.
The one before that was a 13, so the last few years have been a transition for me, but I have adapted.

    18 speeds?!?!?
OK, Swaps, I think MustangGT should be redeemed then.

Still......automatics. Where's the fun in those?

dont you start out in 6th in an 18 speed anyway?
The first 5 are very low range for off road/heavy work?

I think Europe was probably a much more fun experience!

Yep, I am VERY VERY lucky, I know it. It's perfect for a single gal who likes to travel! Great solid schedule and great conditions (no hills, no more than 50 miles of driving between drop-offs, in bed just about every night in camp).

Winter can suck with blowing, blinding snow and you cannot see in front of your truck (I have NOT driven a truck in those conditions yet--just pickups--and you can get stuck at a drillsite overnight.

ETA: NO IMPATIENT DRIVERS either.... just caribou herds and geese are the most challenging thing up there. You can wait for 30+ minutes when the herd is crossing with their babies.

I've had people call that number on the back of my trailer and just lie their ##### off. About two years ago, the saftey director played me a phone message that stated I was doing 100mph and swerving in and out of my lane on I-80 in Woodland, CA. I had a 65mph truck and I-80 does not go through Woodland. Just the other day, I was going up Donner just west of Nyack when another driver got on the radio and told me to pull my slow ### over because he could not get up the speed to pass me in the left lane. Its an 80,000lb tanker with a 425 Cat. If you can't pass me, you can't pass anything.

Off of 411? I used to live on Pleasant Valley Rd South years back, you must have been way out there then; I dont remember the mill, but that was when i was 7 or 8. Steel Coils, is it the cream building with a red stripe on it?

That was the students first day on the road. I remember my first day, the two other students scared the ##### out of me. We were stalled for about 5 minutes at a red light down in Statham. Then the next day on Pine Mountain the female student missed a gear going up the grade and we started rolling back down the hill, almost needed a change of pants that day.
