I received a DUI in Hawaii 16 years ago. I'm now trying to get a Class B license in Florida to drive a delivery truck. Will that DUI appear on my record? If so, will it be a barrier to get a job?
Old DUI? 16 years ago. Will it effect me gettinng my CDL B?

You're good.....16 years ago is more than enough time. Most companies look between 3 to 5 years
Jwalterm8450 Thanks this. -
Yes, up to 75 years on your record in FL
Florida is the US’s North Korea in regards to the penal code and general oppression.
I did not mistype..it’s 75 years not 7.5 or 5-7Diesel Dave and bzinger Thank this. -
The short answer is "no, it will not prevent you from getting a job".
Some companies will not hire anyone who EVER had a DUI.
Other companies are not as picky.
"Will it appear on my record?"
Well, that depends on how far back they want to check.
I found out through personal experience last year that the information is out there somewhere, and a company can go back as far as they want if they're willing to pay for the data.
They were asking me about places I worked 25 years ago.
I didn't get the job.
Your DUI is probably not on your DMV record, but you should check to make sure.
Also, answer ONLY WHAT IS ASKED on the application. Example:
"Have you had a DUI in the last 15 years?"
CORRECT ANSWER: "No".
INCORRECT ANSWER: "No, but I had one 16 years ago".
See how that works? Don't talk yourself out of a job.
Good luck, and let us know how you made out.Opus, tscottme and Jwalterm8450 Thank this. -
Hawaii it only stays on your record for 5 years.homeskillet and Jwalterm8450 Thank this. -
Any job that requires you to cross into Canada will be off limits, but you should be good in the US.
bzinger and homeskillet Thank this. -
If the job application asks "have you had a DUI in the last X years" (and X is less than 16) then a 16 year old DUI will NOT matter.
Don't lie, but only answer the question that is asked. They didn't ask for your life story. They asked A QUESTION. They need THAT QUESTION answered truthfully. Don't play the game of lying because you don't think they will find out. That's how you get fired on the spot a few weeks or months after you get hired. It sucks to be told to get out of the truck in a strange city and only have a few minutes notice to get out and get your stuff home.
And @TripleSix is right. A DUI is likely going to keep you out of Canada, but most US truck drivers NEVER go to Canada.JoeyJunk Thanks this. -

I would not hesitate to apply anywhere but you HAVE to be honest. Good luck!
