Just wanted to add something about military moves; Went on a few of these things. We used to inspect and catalog all pieces for damage, just like it was a high-value move. We used to have to pack all types of garbage furniture, from Sauder kit pieces to things found at Goodwill, and treat them like they were priceless antiques. It was surreal; we probably could've saved money just by throwing the old kit pieces away and giving them a voucher for the Sauder store nearest to the base they were moving to! The worst moves were people who collected a lot of books. Even if packed in 1.5 cu.ft. book boxes, they are heavy; if packed into 6 cu.ft. boxes, they require a reefer cart to move!

When I move, I take my library with me. The movers always piss & moan about boxes of books. Some have even threatened to refuse to take them. It's difficult to respect adult men when you see them crying and whining about part of their job that they signed up for. My personal pride in doing my job won't allow me to sob and wail in front of a customer.

I worked for Combined Van Lines, a United van lined agent for a short time. They did a lot of the military moves from the Michigan thumb area to Ohio line and it SUCKED. Some of the places around Flint and Detroit were downright scary.
