Most fuel haulers, if they fire you, you don't get a second chance. You'll never work for them again.

Depends on how bad your departure was and how much time had passed. Marathon liked my attitude and said I could re-apply. Same as pilot. But the rehiring depends on if the current branch manager feels he wants to take you on.

Yeah you can jump right in, I recommend it despite my troubles. Talked to alot of former O/Os at Pilot. The money is good which is the best part. And if you have enough experience to be an O/O you can definitely handle fuel hauling

Couple things though, always better to go with a company that owns their fuel, (Pilot, or Marathon). Better benefits and less stress.

The smaller carriers pay more but definitely you'll be given 5 deliveries a day. You have to be the one to take your time and not let that stress you. Don't be affraid to give a load back if you don't have time. Try to preload it if you can. In that case you won't have problems.

Pay, home time and freedom is good and hard to find in other fields which is why I kept trying to stick with it.

Fuel hauling companies don't make much money, and any mistake a fuel driver makes is going to be expensive to correct. That's why fuel hauling companies are so unforgiving.

You have to go slow, develop a routine, and double-check everything. It's far better to be slow and correct than to hurry and make a mistake.

Eventually you will get faster but it will come through efficiency, not from rushing. And when you're getting paid by the hour there's absolutely no incentive to rush anyway.

Exactly 100%! That needs to be drilled in my head IF I get lucky enough to get another chance.

A couple of the companies you have listed have Nazi like micromanaging policies. Iv been told by drivers from marathon, they hire to fire. Fuel hauling is just one of those jobs that you will be scrutinized on every breath. you just gotta make sure the pay is worth it.

So true. Cox Petroleum even more than marathon. I was shocked when a group of managers interrogated me for accidentally making the 2nd delivery first instead of the 1st delivery first. Or sometimes you come in for your shift and a TM is showing you a video of yourself from months ago where you breaked too hard or didn't stop long enough at the green light before making a right turn at 3am.

I always wonder how some of these drivers have been doing it for years, but as the other guys mentioned above, it's all about taking your time.

If you come in like I did, expecting these companies not to make a big deal over small mistakes, the fuel game will eat you up and spit you out.

Really a lot of guys aren't warned that half the job is just dealing with corrupt management. Ask the drivers at RB Stewart how they are treated since they make top dollar in some locations.

Does anybody know if Marathon is real picky about you smoking weed while waiting in line at the rack?

I overfilled a few compartments 20 years ago when I was hauling fuel. I’m sure it’s probably changed a lot since then with all the cameras and surveillance. We were pretty much all alone at night when loading in the terminal. What an old timer taught me and it does work, is to use an empty washer fluid bottle and bring it up over the probe at the top of the tank. Scully thinks the compartment is good and the rack goes back green. Then proceed to load the rest of the compartments. Just remember to take the jug out before dumping the fuel.
