Yes sir, and I thank God that when my dad was just a kid he and his seven brothers had the guts to go overseas and fight this mad man. Otherwise we could've very well been speaking German now!!

 

The C of E is official in name only now, but come to think of it, no it isn't because the bishops are members of the House of Lords, the unelected 2nd chamber of the Parliament. Also I believe the Church does still own vast areas of land.

My comment before was about France though, where the church's power (a different one, the Catholic) was swept away in the Revolution along with the monarchy and the special advantages of the aristocracy. A good thing too, at least everybody is elected fairly here now.

 

i actually had this happen at my bank, a bank i have been a customer at since about 1972.....

they have a sign on the front door, "please remove dark glasses and hats"

(i have cataracts forming, so i wear my sunglasses) and i like to wear my baseball caps...all 4 seasons.

so any way, i get inside the the vestibule, just before the main door..

a security rent a cop said to me..."uh sir, your hat and glasses"...

i said, "yes they are"......and walked right on inside.

to this day, i do not take off my glasses or hat, entering a bank, 7-11, gun shop, or walmart..

but i do, when inside my doctors office....and a persons home.
