Funny that this came up. I got a new truck a couple weeks ago but I haven't installed the CB yet. I've got some time today, thought about doing it (would take all of 10 minutes), and thought, Nah, I'm not missing anything without it.

We deliver to a facility that will not let you in if you don't have a CB.

Apparently it's too much work for the security guard to write down a phone number next to each driver's name on the waiting list.

Not many even use or feel the need for a CB anymore.

Seems to be a bi monthly thing anymore of passing and seeing a maxi rusted out on the trailer and hanging by the airlines and slack adjuster, or a mud flap hanging by 1 bolt, or a tire that’s went flat and broke the bead, or a brake light out.

Roll up beside the driver and finally get his attention since he is fully engulfed in a phone conversation or hiding behind a window blind, show him my CB mic just to get a head nod of no I don’t have one. Guess the guy with the big brimmed hat will tell him at the scales…

Lots of companies dont allow them now, and some that do dont let you use the mic

When a CB is needed, there's not much substitute. How does a non-CB truck know what lane is the open and which is the closed lane? Google/Trucker Path will show you where the backup is located. how bad it is, etc. Google/TP doesn't tell you the right lane is open. If you have a CB you can leave it off until you need it. If you don't have a CB you cannot turn it on. You can easily get a basic setup including everything for $150. It's not 1996 with the CB curse-fest 24/7. Mega companies and their "trainers" know the newbies they prefer are easily distracted by shiny objects and will stare at it until they hit a brick wall, so they tell these future failures "don't get a CB, it's too much distraction." It's a race to the bottom.

.....i agree that it's better to have it than be without , espcially if it's a different place everyday . Hauling fuel in nm really doesn't require one and we do a lot of slip seating , so there is that . The only time i really would like one is for traffic and going out of state like az, co , ok.

I don't hear much on the CB on the interstate. I will still try to give the trucks a warning of cops, accidents etc but don't get a lot of anything in return. On the 2 lanes that I run most of the time, it's a different story. The trucks running there almost always talking to each other.
