Well....typically if you're a new driver you can run into companies not returning your calls. Then you have to call and say, "I'm just calling to check the status of my application. Now I see that you're from Florida, and that can be a bit of a problem, as many companies don't hire out of Florida. Are you experienced?

I have 4 years experience but took a few years off and wanting to go back. But I'm not talking about filling out an application and waiting. My original post was about calling or emailing a company so i can ask questions about the position before even letting them know about me. Some of the questions I have would be "do you hire out of FL" etc.. I want to learn about them to see if they are a good fit before wasting my time filling an application out. Usually it's easier with mega carriers, but I'm not interested in them unless the deal is too good to pass up. I prefer middle size to smaller companies.bryan21384 Thanks this.

There are a abundance of shady recruiters, safety departments etc. Who have pretentious mindsets towards who they decide to call back. However, in the long run if a driver's has a Clean driving record, decent references, etc. They Need a drivers so eventually they will call if they are smart enough on choosing a good driver. Experience supercedes their method of contact however, as a driver you need to take control of who you decide to work for. Depending on the economy and time of year will determine timely callbacks. A couple years ago I applied to 10 carriers whiles all called back within 3 days. Now 20 different companies I applied to and only 9 got back and many are super sketchy on their conduct methods of recruiting drivers/o/o's. 90% of the time there is No loss when certain companies don't call back and most likely they're not honest. Making the best choices in this Freight Recession is crucial because this is allegedly going to be a cold harsh winter in the freight market with this Freight recession.
Lonesome and bryan21384 Thank this. -
Ahhh I see. How long were you out of trucking and what part of Florida do you stay? Which companies have you looked at so far? Even with calling to get those questions answered, that can be daunting. What exactly are you looking for, because there are quite if few Florida guys on here that may have the scoop.Lonesome Thanks this.

I'm in Orlando, I've been out of trucking for 27 months, last job I hauled milk locally and looking to go back to liquid tanker. Anything tanker, local, regional, OTR as long as the pay is good, and decent hometime. I've looked up quite a few companies, the ones that haven't replied are, Langer, Andrews Logistics, B-H Transfer, Hilco and MTS. The one that I'll most likely go with is Tidewater Transit since they have a guaranteed min. pay, and their recruiter is very good at communicating. Plus they require a passport and already applied for one specifically for that job. I've looked at lots including oakley, bynum, flowtrans, indian river, hr ewell, walpole, venezia, foodliner, schwend, LGT, service transport, custom commodities, chemical south, etc...
There's 3 more i plan on calling this week, Jensen, Dana and Ergon.Lonesome Thanks this. -
My friend was looking at Custom Commodities. They look the part to me. They offered him a job, but he stupidly took a different routs. That pay package looks really good to me!!!

A lot of companies that say they are hiring are actually just collecting data. There’s no job. They just want all your information handed to them for free. Also the recession will be announced about 9 months after the first fed rate cut. We’ve already been in a recession for a while. A lot of companies are barely floating right now.
Zonno Thanks this. -
Yes the company that laid me, and many others, off 2 years ago has the same hiring ad on their website this whole time.
-
They aren’t the only ones. Betcha $5 they haven’t hired nearly as many as they layed off. That’s what’s funny about the jobs numbers. They can’t pretend there’s no recession if the companies aren’t pretending to hire. Best of luck to you.
