E-Coast is another thing that irritates me lol. Only truly works out at very specific weights and is just annoying. Either going too fast at the bottom of the hill or barely moving at the top of the hill. Pretty much have to not use cruise in half of the states to not look like a tool slowing down and speeding up 15mph all day

"But, I have seen enough videos of drivers in the fog or distracted drivers not annihilating 4 wheelers due to the systems automatically braking."

if we never had these systems at all, alot of drivers wouldn't be driving distracted, because they would still know how to actually drive a vehicle.

Ok - you guys are going to have to learn me on a couple of things. The last 'new truck ' I drove was a 2015 Cascadia, and it slammed on the brakes by itself one day on a 2 lane road, for no reason. I don't think it was equipped with any forward radar or anything. We left the company shortly after.

    I drive a 1995 379 now that I own.

I've noticed that (either personal vehicle or truck) that these newer trucks will get out in the hammer lane about 700-1000 feet back, when they're barely going a couple miles faster than I am.

Traffic gets peeved, they get passed on the right, it creates aggressive behaviors. Is this a result of the adaptive cruise control or another system on them?

I'm used to them getting right on my bumper before jerking it over to pass, but this is a new thing. Any explanations?

That's nothing. Companies like Amazon/FedEx Ground have much worse AI camera's. They track when you touch your phone, yawn, seat belt not buckled, go over the speed limit, go over the company's speed limit (Going 70mph down a hill if your company governs you at 65), following too close and so on. All of these events trigger a video recording that is sent directly to safety and you will be penalized for it, usually in the form of lost safety bonus, a write-up or lecture which can lead to termination if it happens too often. Some truckers are curious why people pass from 500ft+ away. It's because we're trying not to trigger the stupid camera. It makes me hate driving. If this garbage becomes standard, I'm done with trucking.

Adaptive cruise is super cautious on some trucks, so might be why. Not sure why they don't just pedal down and run it a bit closer to make it a reasonable time. Maybe their safety departments are strict and truly require that 6 or whatever second following distance.

Also, some companies are set up to be faster on cruise than on the pedal. The one company i drove for like that, you could still pedal down with the cruise set and still run the faster speed, but maybe it's not the same in all trucks

I've been at companies that only record <1 second following distance, some 3, and never any higher, but I'm sure some safety strict companies do.

To an extent, but I don't exactly see the most attentive folks in older trucks all the time either. Seems like everyone has their eyes buried in their phone and I'd venture to guess the majority of trucks on the road still don't have CMS when you factor in dump trucks, day cabs, intermodal fellas, etc.

Combine that with the walking heart attacks, sleep deprived drivers, and just plain ignorant drivers, and it makes sense to have the system in place, from an insurance and company perspective IMO.

In an ideal world, it wouldn't need to exist, but the trucking industry isn't exactly the upper echelon of the trades lmao.

It’s getting tougher out there with all these nannies. These are just systems that are being tested for autonomous driving. Most are at level 2 or 3 already. It really kills the joy of driving. What ever little bit of it that is left that is.

unfortunately these trucks are becoming the annoying micro manager boss. Of course, all in the name of “safety” that beautiful magic word that is used instead of “profits”. Because if you raise a counter argument about a “safety reason” the smoothbrains will all act out and go “are you against safety?!” It’s so ridiculous.

seems to me that being very selective with which company one works at, and or buying your own truck is the answer if we want to stay in this career. At least, driving an older truck or deleting all the nannies from them will take a while longer to regulate.

What would be nice is if you could turn the functions on or off. Lane assist might be nice on a long, boring overnight run, but I'd want that turned off in daytime driving, and I NEVER want following distance warnings. However, a backing assistance mirror, especially for rookies, with a trailer-clearance warning could make truckstops parking a less risky proposition for all...

It's bad. Drivers need to be in control 100 percent. Computers IA is junk. I won't drive truck like. I wish more would be real men and not drive crap like this on highway.
