After not being able to stand the thought of doing another load for a company that actually boils my blood, turned the truck in to the first company a few days ago and I start orientation in two days for my new company.

I had the new job lined up before quitting and I’ll only have had one week of off time during the transition.

what do I do? How do I make sure I don’t screw this up. I have a clean driving record for 5+ years and 3 months of recent OTR experience. I live in Chicago area (actually I’m homeless) and am going into a regional driving position that also does hand unloading of 2-3 trailers per week.

The company I left was much less safety oriented than the company I am going to.

I’m expecting to make 1,100-1,500 a week. Supposed to drive 1500 miles or less per week and unload 2-3 trailers by hand and it’s at many stops. No stop pay

I get .59 cents mile and $130 empty pay plus $15 an hour for any on duty. Once my hazmat comes thru it bumps to .62 cents mile.

    happy thanksgiving!

Does the new company know you'll be living in the truck?

Good luck. I was thinking about you. Thinking 3 months otr and leave. Get finger printed, do Uber until hazmat comes back. Then go sni.

$450 a week is horrible for flatbed. That's van starting 12 years ago for the first 3 months

Sysco is another food service company. Like McLane.

TWIC hazmat ==>> tankers. Many people have made money that way.

You'll be fine at this new gig man. If you can keep your head focused on the task at hand, you'll be just fine. Take your time doing everything, and become efficient. Don't worry about speed. That's when you screw up. If backing, get out and look as often as possible. It's like that sometimes. Keep doing the fundamentals properly and you'll have longevity.

I'm lazy. I would have gone JB Hunt. Drop and hook at rail yards. Gross what 900 to 1200 a week? Get my year in. Get a little fatter.

Like McDonald's does food service too. Or do they contract it out. Maybe a mix.

    DG, I wouldn't do that.
