I’ve been doing local for about 6 months now, hauling beer. But I want to do flatbed. Melton has talked to me, and I’m in a good position for their East Regional Fleet.

Does anyone have experience with what their hometime is like in the central Kentucky area? The lady I spoke to said it’s more weekly in that area, because of how central it is in the east region.

I’ve been exploring options for a couple weeks now. Melton really stood out to me, so did TMC, but I don’t like the whole “Military do what you’re told or you’re fired” mindset they have.

So any other suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I looked into them, but they told me I couldn’t work for them unless I was fresh out of CDL school, that I was too far removed now

I started at Maverick and my trainer was from Kentucky-he hadn’t missed a weekend home in a decade.

What they say.....vs what it really means:

That sounds like a veiled way of saying..."we are not currently hiring in your area"....or similar.

If....you came to them with a year (or more) of flatbed experience (plus a clean safety record)...by the response you got....are we to really believe they (still) wouldn't hire you?!?

Yeah I agree with you. I also was turned down by Gypsum Express because I wanted “too much money” I told them I was looking for about 11-1200 a week after taxes

If recruiters won't shoot straight with you -- try looking elsewhere.

Maverick is aggressively looking for drivers in some areas.

You are easily inside their hiring area...as of the time of this writing.

You probably won't find better flatbed training anywhere else.

A bonus: after you pull "normal" flatbed loads with them for about 6 months -- ask to move over to either their glass....or marine division -- & get some varied flatbed experience.

    #### that's not unreasonable. What does gypsum pay a year?

Melton pays average or slightly under and expects you to do a lot of work for little pay. There home time was around 1 day home for every 1 week out (I was there 9 years ago). They are a micromanagement company. But they do teach you the correct way to secure and after your time at Melton you will be qualified to work a better paying job.

Maverick is where you need to be looking. I regularly ran loads in and out of KY, when I was there.
