If you think you’re going to get fired is it worth quitting 1st

I haven't read the original thread, so I don't know if there's more to the story, but I don't see them disciplining you in any way if someone else hit your mirror while you were parked. They may do an investigation to corroborate your story, but that should end with it being ruled a non-preventable incident.

As for quitting AFTER they've decided to let you go, it's already too late at that point. Even if you say "I quit" 30 seconds before they were going to say "you're fired," they can still put it in their system as a termination and report it to other companies that way. The idea is to quit while they're still deciding whether or not to fire you so there's no point in them making a final decision.

 

You never know about outfits. I, like a lot of athletes, got real excited when I won the other day and I threw the ball into the crowd. I know now, after immediate expulsion, that they frown on that at the local bowling alley.

 

OP did you make it back to the terminal yet?

 

Did they charge you for the bowling ball? Those things are expensive.

 

He must've got fired.

 

I think the OP has had a few incidents at this employer before someone broke his mirror. Some employers that hire newbies toss newbies if they get a magic number of events. I think the OP is anticipating something like that happening since he doesn't have video of someone else breaking his mirror to prove he's innocent. I only know what I read.

 

Did he get fired?

It's only been one day. He probably has not yet reached the terminal.

 

I ran into a driver the other day been out on the road for 21 years. We got to talking. During the conversation, he mentioned that he had five events on his record during the last year. He was unaware of them until trying to apply to a new company…Company reported events not MVR etc events…. None of these events were his fault as he described. Just a coincidence. Three times he was struck by a neighboring truck trying to park while in his sleeper at a truckstop. Another time someone sideswiped him. He went on to tell me that he applied for his “dream trucking job“ and was turned down due to these five events on his record. He told me where they showed up but I don’t recall. Even though clearly none of them were his fault he was denied. We are in an industry where we are held accountable either directly or indirectly for things that are not our fault. No other profession holds you to this kind of accountability. Only truck drivers. It absolutely amazes me. This driver that I spoke with had 21 years of experience without a blemish on his record that he was at fault for. Yet he has prevented from improving his life and improving his job status for the actions of others.

He is suing over it however. Showed me his docket. Six figures close to seven. Multiple defendants. Lawyers took it contingent. Why anybody, and everybody out there with a pencil thinks that they can slander drivers for things that happen that are completely out of our control is beyond me, but it needs to change.

not sure what the deal is with the original poster I get the gut sense he might be leaving something out. But if taken in face value, we have another driver who is being fired for the negligence of someone else.
