I have not looked into any other opportunities as of yet. Not that I don’t appreciate your help, I do. I was supposed to go straight into fedex and then that fell thru. I have just been checking the Schneider board everyday hoping they post something new but it’s slim pickings right now.

    austinmike and 77fib77 Thank this.

Yes truck driver is the most common job amongst males in the entire United States. Lots of truck drivers. I think you’re crazy tho if you think autonomy is coming before white collar gets obliterated. Haven’t you seen money ball with Brad Pitt? The computer can choose who should drive better than any human being would ever be able to. Anyone who doesn’t do anything except click buttons and make phone calls, they’re definitely first. But AI is coming for everyone anyways.

I did leave unexpectedly but it was one of those things where I wasn’t waiting around to find out. I did have another job already lined up right away but that fell thru.

I don’t know if I’m ready for my coming to Jesus moment. And man I’m from Chicago I might melt in the Nevada summers!

Oh boy , wise words from Mr Tscottme. Well sir I have finally gained the wisdom to realize what I need to do. I need a 1099 Russian Volvo job with 2 clocks so I can run 6000 miles a week solo and make some real money. I’ll just do that until I get caught and cross my fingers I can get away with it for a couple years.

    A joke, sir

tscottme, Numb, austinmike and 2 others Thank this.

Um go back orange and go tankers. Chicago is a better place for employment in trucking. You could do something that pays less with less stress like JB Hunt. Talk to your old boss and see if he would hire you to dollar general again?

Job hopping it's all up to the employer.

Personally you need another 4 months. You need the time. The money will come later.

That’s what I’m leaning towards currently, just not thrilled about moving again. I could get the dollar general job back, but not thru transfer now, so I would have to move.

    77fib77 Thanks this.

Can you do dollar general for three months and move sideways in Snider to tankers? With out moving. Call a tanker recruiter. Tell him you will stay out far a month. See if that will change anything.

Hmm. Drive down to Odessa Midland Texas ask around. A lot of Texas companies like vets.

2 months for your prints to come back?

Here we go again, another expert.

Look dude, you are a driver, and my advice to you is to be a driver. Focus on you and your driving for a few years at one company, not three or four, or be a ping pong. Become an asset, not a commodity or a liability.

Whether you like it or not, there are changes coming to how drivers are going to be in the future. With 2.1 million estimated CDL holders out there (I would say 1/3 don't even use it), there is a lot of room for improvement. This is the second most common job; retail is number one by three times.

Right now the trends are going toward this shift because of the problems that cheap labor and crap drivers have caused. Many of the problems are because FMCSA/US DOT will not tighten up on the education of the drivers; it is so easy to get a CDL, the exams are simple, the road test is a joke, so you just have to breathe, and they hand a CDL to you.

The outcome of ALL OF THIS is really simple - the insurance companies that run this entire industry will set the limits for the drivers, and they will welcome automation with open arms, with fewer liabilities.

Once this starts, people will not be able to use this as a rescue method in their lives; they either work towards a CDL and earn it like an electrician or plumber, or they will not be able to drive.

I will repeat what I said, so listen carefully, you are a driver, and my advice to you is to be a driver. Focus on you and your driving for a few years at one company, not three or four, or be a ping pong. Become an asset, not a commodity or a liability.

Lol.....you did flatbed with Western, handling those big ### tarps, and you went to Florida I believe, with then, you made it out of there without turning into liquid lol. You're Chicago tough man.....go ahead and call back the big pumpkin and burn up those highways man. When you do, keep your head down and run the miles. It's important to block out the noise, or els you’ll become the miles. It'll all fall in line:)
