    Topic segue:

A MAJOR ADVANTAGE with the larger fleets, that all-too-often gets ignored/overlooked -- if the account &/or freight type to which you're currently assigned just isn't working for you, you can transfer (given certain criteria) over to another freight type &/or account.

When OTR wasn't doing it for me at the Big Orange -- after 6 months of it, I switched/transferred over to their intermodal fleet ("where the rubber meets the rail").

    :Railway:

This transfer solved several different problems for me:
    • First & foremost -- it considerably extended my tenure with Schneider; rather than changing employers, I merely changed freight types
    • I think trains are cool...so working with & around them was neat :)
    • As an intermodal driver -- I spent more time doing drop-n-hook, & less time running up & down the interstate; this gave me more opportunities to practice/hone backing skills...rather than just being more of an OTR interstate-munching, steering wheel holder
    • I got home more often: weekly, instead of monthly
Thus -- rather than leaving your first carrier outright -- look around, & investigate other opportunities &/or freight types....you may well be amazed/glad you did -- especially later on.

Exempt freight is a possibility. It's unlikely - but concievable to haul hay back south for example.

1500 gross ? Not a bad route, pretty easy driving .. but at 1500 gross u probably only take home 900 if ur getting health ins and paying taxes... Thats not very good.. and how do they pay? Mileage? Salary? If mileage that 1500 will fluctuate week to week. Also 3 round trips might not be possible unless its all same direct freight with low unload times... Vegas to SLC is approvimately a 6 hr drive in a truck that can do the speed limit... 7 hrs or more if governed less than 70 mph... this doesnt include any traffic , which u can add an hour or 2 if getting out of slc and going south anytime aftee 3pm... Traffic in american fork area is the worst and doesnt clear up til almost 7pm.
    Just something to think about.

If doing backhauls out of nucor in brig city or plymouth, u will be sitting to be loaded for multiple hours... Plymouth aint bad but the cold finish plant sucks royally... Im sure we will cross paths on this route eventually since this is a major lane for my company as well.

the steak dinner offer still stands if u see me :D

Seems to be the same with companies. Good companies never have job ads anywhere

Bro... All of the violations listed are lazy violations... Meaning someone in that company doesnt care. Also i remember seeing cracked frame OOS violation. How does a guy get a cracked frame running the southwest..i have seen 40 year old trucks down here without a spec of rust.. Its plain as day to most this is a gig here equipment is getting abused and not a good place to work.

Everybody here is just looking out for you, because some if not most of us have had it shoved up our rear by companies like that...

Its obvious chitown is set in his decision... Living in a storage container in ghetto vegas... Which if u guys arent familiar with vegas , everywhere outside of the strip will give gary indiana a run for its money...

Out of all the gigs a guy could get i dont think this is the right one.. me personally if this was the only job available id probably go ring a cash register instead, but i guess someone has to keep these fly by nights in business....

Just kinda funny to me we got multiple trucks open 4 hours to the south, make more money, paycheck clears every friday. Brand new equipment, good freight. No micro managing or hand holding. U do your work they do theirs and everybody is happy Easiest work i ever done. If u want to live in the truck nobody cares, just say thats what u wanna do and dispatch will run you so hard you will be able to relate to a donkey.. and u aint putting ur cdl or your life at risk running horrible junk...i just surpassed 250k miles in 19 months... This is first company ive worked for where im still waiting for someone to lie to me. The recruiter is the driver mamager and he drove for 25+ years and one of the coolest dudes on this planet and he dont blow smoke up anybodies ###.. nor will he lie to get u in the door.. well it aint a 40 hr a week gig tho.. and id bet that one aint either. People lie to get drivers in the door. Thats a tale as old as time. And when u got junk equipment and the feng shui container , and a ruined psp score and license a guy wont ever be able to have a good gig after that

Its kinda disheartning to watch someone walk off the edge of a cliff but you make your own choices... I just hope those brake violations with ur company doesnt get u in trouble running the mountains in ut and nv... Because #### like that will kill you...

Something else to understand is i have never once seen a nv state trooper doing a roadside nor is there hardly any scales in the state. They have a couple inspection points they open every once in a blue moon.... The only other scale on that route is in st george and brig city if u go that far north. So i wonder where in the world that company is racking up all those inspections....
