Currently staying, but seriously looking. Checked on one, but currently still not hiring.

Who was it that wasn't hiring, if you don't mind me asking? Did they at least tell you to check back with them periodically or something to show interest in you?

Sucks that trucking is doing so bad that places you want to go to aren't hiring. A complete 180 from 2020 - 2021. It's been going on (freight recession/overcapacity, whatever you want to call it) for 3 years now with no end in sight.

I will just say, it's a private fleet with 70 or so trucks that generally only hire when people either retire, or leave due to a medical condition. They have an extremely low driver turnover.

    I can.

Somewhere around 2012 or 2013 I was assigned an Amazon load going from Dallas to Ft Worth. I forget the details, but it was something like pickup a preloaded trailer between 22:00 and 03:00, drive 30 miles and live unload at 08:00. Took like 6 hours to off load, by which time my 14 was dwindling and all I could do was go back to the yard. Something like 40 total hours on a 100 mile total load (plus detention). I raised polite and respectful heck which resulted in some discretionary pay. Still not worth my time, but the company made bank - like that load covered the fixed costs of the truck for the week.
