Mechanics and ELD's, how is a road test logged?

All I can tell you is what I do in this situation, when I roll into a shop I sign off the ELD completely, What they do when Im signed out of the truck is none of my business, When you sign out note left at shop for service. Also note it when you sign back into the ELD.
The mechanic being local probably is not required to have a logbook. This could be true under CA's rules.

 

I worked for WMI back in 1989, everybody but office staff had at least a class B, Some of us had class A's but WMI required a class B in the Los Angeles region.

 

I just put it down as PC, and annotate it as truck left in Shop.
Plus have the repair bill handy in truck of asked.

so far no one’s said anything.
That way mileage and time is logged not showing discrepancy of unaccounted tune/miles

 

I would not use PC,and its not legal to log as PC because it is not.Could get you a log violation that could be held against your clock. By going off duty and signing out, legally your relieved of all responsibility for the equipment and the load, no requirement for the driver to have copies of repairs other than notes you makein the DVIR. The DVIR lets you document the repair. Off / . Duty then sign out of the elog

 

As a mechanic you are not required to log into driving within 150 miles, as far as license, if you operate the equipment on a public road your are required to have a CDL of the proper class for the equipment, otherwise keepit on private property.

Why lie when theres no reason. PC shows your responsible for the miles, logging out your not. Do what you like.

Exactly. PC is for when you're driving the truck as a POV if a pov were available. If you're moving truck because the truck needs to be moved, then it's not PC. What confused people is the fmcsa allowing it to move the truck while being coerced by shipper/receiver or LE . I actually read someone justifying using PC for parking after fueling!
