The reason I stay out is so I can afford to go home. Living in FL, it tends to be outside the normally productive freight lanes. So, when it comes to getting me home, I usually have 3 sub-par paychecks. One for the week they work me home, one for whatever time off I take, and one for the week I leave back out and get back into the system and up to speed. Going home more often would just limit what productive weeks I do get. Really, the only other option I would have to get home more is to sell my house, pay off my bills, then go rent a single wide in a mobile home park somewhere. For what we pay on our mortgage, renting a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment would be more expensive...and with home prices where they are, there is no way I could afford to buy elsewhere.

my checks are always a little bit less when I go home too even though I don’t live in a horrible Freight area… That’s just the nature sometimes there’s been a few times I’ve had 3000 miles to go home, but I don’t count on it on a short week when I’m going home if I end up with 23 to 2500 I’m satisfied Cause I know it could be a whole lot worse…

I think the issue overall is living in Florida. I've heard that basically the planners try and keep you in your home region as much as possible. Idk how true that is, though I do feel like I've been running more Midwest-west freight since i officially moved back to Illinois. Though I've also gone several months that the furthest west I've gone is st louis, so... eh

Generally, the only time I see FL is when I go home mainly because, freight wise, Florida is a destination state unless it's produce season (and you're in south FL) or you haul sea cans. I will go to Jacksonville or Alachua, but Alachua is only 10 min from home, so I only go there when it's time to go home. Outbound freight is almost non-existent except Jacksonville. When leaving home, I either pick up coffee creamer out of Jax, or I head to Albany to pick up peanuts. My last tour with Shaffer, I picked up seafood out of Brunswick from time to time, but I haven't seen one if those loads since I came back this time.

that's the advantage of living where you do(or at least where you start and stop your travels). We have plenty of customers all around the DFW area, and a fair amout going up to the NW or to SoCal, so your inbound and outbound checks aren't affected nearly as much as living in the SE.

My miles drop regardless majority of the time the week leading up to hometime..only on occasion and everything has to line up perfectly for me to have 3000mi the week i go home…plenty of means to get it disrupted and nothing to do with the company..plenty of outside events can cause that…

Yeah, I try and find even the flimsiest excuse to reject Florida loads now. Usually its Atlanta area down, then back to Atlanta or the Carolinas. Its not worth the headache. Im lucky if I get a load out same day I deliver. East coast in general to easy to get stuck on. Like I get thats where the majority of the population is, so majority of freight, but jeez it can be ridiculous

Stopped at the pilot in Murfreesboro this morning after I picked up my loaded trailer while I’m inside the pilot the guy behind the counter is talking to another female employee about a evidently a homeless guy in the area that’s been trespassed from the pilot and I guess what they said was The guy was saying he needed a place to sleep so he told him that he’s been trespassed from the property can you call the police on me… So the guy sat out front till the police showed up to haul him off… Sad state of affairs
