Still sitting in Alda,NE at the less than impressive TA. Was under the excavator at 0830 and about to get the tank off before they decided it was too windy - which it really was. 45 gusting to 65, it finally eased off now.

Try again in the morning, they better get their act together early before the wind picks up again. Been here 40 hours and counting . . . .:biggrin_25510:

I drove several back in middle 70s. 6V 71 and 8V 71 I don't remember any blower problems . Lots of people nowadays think they're really cool, I hope I never have to drive one again. They truly the most efficient was to turn diesel fuel into noise.

That mostly depended on how well you serviced the engine and air filter. But a blower can last longer than the engine itself, the blower drive or the seals were the most likely culprit to give problems. When the drive goes out the engine is dead in the water from lack of air.

Hard to beat a 2 stroke mounted on a pump or generator. Biggest issue with 2 strokes in a truck was the loose nut behind the steering wheel as far as longevity goes…..

71 series can leave a bad taste in your mouth, but a 92 setup right can be pretty impressive actually. Still don’t have the low rpm torque needed for some trucking applications….

A 6-71 is only 426 cubic inches. There is only so much you can do with a tack hammer

Very true. The advantage of the 2 strokes as far as maintenance or rebuilding was the ability to use the same parts between the inline and V blocks. As dad use to say when Detroit wanted more power they just added more cylinders.

I’m supposed to move the drilling rig this morning for a guy if this rain doesn’t hold us off. He has a spare 6V92TA in a convex box in case he ever needs it, it’s a silver rated at 350 hp according to the tag on the valve cover, more than what the truck has now. The 6V92T I have is only 335 hp, but it’s a squeezer version. If memory serves me the 8V92T in my General is 365 hp, but can make it 430-450 hp and make it live long as it stays cool. The 475 silver would be my choice out of all of them….
