Thanks guys, I just shut down in Nebraska near the 70/80 split, I’ll start driving around 3 am, I’m more worried about Rawlins as the weather says winds will be in the high 40’s early tomorrow morning. But past that point the wind speeds are apparently low.
I80 vs I70 west

Yeah that would’ve been a hard no from my dispatch, one time I asked them if I could take a detour through New Mexico to Texas since Wyoming had pretty bad wind, they told me to take it slow and shutdown if winds are too bad lolD.Tibbitt and Lane=addict Thank this.

You will be fine on i80. I came through today and am currently in rock springs. My gross is 55k was a bit windy

Thats ####ty.. lots of times during the winter, taking a detour will mean keep working or get stuck behind road closures for an entire week.Oxbow, Big Road Skateboard, Zeldaofeden and 1 other person Thank this.

Lots of times as a company driver, i would take detours around crap and play the old ask for forgiveness rather than permission... But i always have a good rep with dispatch and they turn a bind eye... I know megas arent really like that

Sounds like pinching pennies on fuel because they have no margin. More worried about spending an extra $50 on fuel vs having a possible wreck or days of lost time waiting out wind closures.
They don't care about lost time for the driver because they don't pay him to sit around and wait for closures.
Bean counters only care about making a couple bucks off the load. They don't care how many drivers go broke sitting around waiting for free.
I'd rather drive 500 miles out of my way instead of sitting for a day.Trucker61016, MACK E-6, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this. -
Run 80. High and dry. With 74K gross you'll be fine. High wind warning out w/ gusts to 75 mph, but you're anchored pretty good.
Safe travels.Zeldaofeden Thanks this. -
Update: made it to Rawlins for my lunch break, wind gusts peaked at 54 mph and boy did my booty pucker. Took it slow at 60 mph with 4 ways on, probably could’ve gone faster but this was my first time driving at these wind speeds. Passed some truckers that were empty so I couldn’t imagine how they felt.
Respect to you Veterans out there that have been doing this longer than I’ve been alive lol. This is my first time doing otr, it’s only December and I’ve already driven in a blizzard complete white out, high wind speeds, nearly slammed my truck twice into the wall and guard rail on slippery roads.
You guys have a great Christmas and happy new years, stay safe and I’ll see you on the road hopefully not in a ditch lol <3
hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
they probably don’t generally care about the penny pinching as long as the load gets there on time. If they got chippy about it I’d say first of all I had a safety reason. Second go ahead and dock my pay the $35-40 for going 100 miles out of route. And then I’d probably start shopping for somebody else to drive for because I don’t like to be micro-managed to that level.

Sorry but I have to say it. Please don't run with your 4 ways on, especially at 60 mph. 4 ways should only be used for stopped traffic, sudden slow downs, equipment issues, or unexpected debris or vehicles stopped in the travel lanes. When folks run them all the time nobody really pays attention to them.
That's just my opinion, but I think running them all the time when there is no issue causes more problems than they prevent.Trucker61016, LOTSO, BoostedTeg and 7 others Thank this.
